If you missed BET's Black Girls Rock last night, you missed more than just an award show, but a moment that we rarely see televised. Powerful women, young and old, gathered together to celebrate and affirm an identity that is often judged, under represented, and subtly shamed. For me, Black Girls Rock was less about having something for myself to watch, and more about setting the standard for so many young black girls who are desperately trying to find their place and way in this crazy, twisted world.
Earlier this week, the beautiful Kerry Washington graced the cover of ADWEEK, the respected and often coveted source for all things advertising and media. The only problem? They may have "covered" a little bit more than just her story.
