Whether you’re a writer, journalist, makeup artist, photographer, graphic designer- hell anybody!-if you’re serious about your business and the services you provide, a portfolio of your work is a must and will take you far. Having a portfolio to showcase your work will not only make it easy for you to negotiate the appropriate contracts and fees, but will also add a level of professionalism to your brand that will attract the likes of larger companies and clients.
In other words:
GIRL, INSTAGRAM IS NOT A PORTFOLIO!
Don’t get us wrong: It's a great place to showcase your work, but it shouldn't be the primary point of reference for your professional book. Social media is cool, but to many, it can come off as amateurish and one dimensional. Unless your services are meant for the social world, always keep in mind that there are millions of traditional businesses and big players that are constantly looking for talent, so to be competitive, you’ve got to have the work to prove it.
